Text Giving

It is now possible to give to the work of St George’s Church by text message!

Like many charities, the church is feeling the financial pressure of Coronavirus due to the national closure of all church buildings and the resulting reduction in income. We have therefore been looking to make giving easier for our regular members.

How do I give?

To give to a one-off gift to St George’s Church by text message, simply text STG 5 to 70085 to donate £5. Simple!

How much can I give?

You can give between £1 to £20. The number after STG specifies the amount to give. For example: –

Text “STG 5” to 70085 to give £5

Text “STG 10” to 70085 to give £10.

Text “STG 20” to 70085 to give £20.

What are the charges?

Texts cost the amount you are donating plus one standard rate text message. 5% is deducted from the gift to cover the provider’s fees. So if you were to give £10 by text, St George’s would receive £9.50.

Can I gift aid my text?

Yes. You will receive a follow-up text, thanking you for your gift and asking you if you would like to gift aid your donation. These details will be passed onto us and we can claim gift aid if you are a UK tax payer. This adds 25p to every £1 you give and costs nothing except one extra standard rate text message.

Can I opt out of follow-up texts?

Yes. You will automatically be opted in for follow-up texts and to hear about our work and fundraising – sorry, that’s the system and we can’t opt out! But if you do not wish to receive ‘marketing’ via telephone and text, use the keyword STGNOINFO. For example, to give £5, you would text, ‘STGNOINFO 5’ to 70085.

Can I automatically give monthly?

We don’t currently have the facility to give monthly via text message. However, it is possible to set up regular giving with a bank standing order. This has the advantage of allowing more flexibility and all the money goes to St George’s.
